I did not originally plan the six panels with their image of Jonas Endres as a portrait work. They were made as non-commissioned works. On the informally primed picture space I dramatized a systematic play between a relatively fine and several rougher grids and the ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ reproduction of a photographic original. To my surprise (and that of the subject) what emerged in the end was a series which displayed an unexpected similarity with the subject.
